History and gardens, without the real climbs

Unlike the two Euganean Hills Rings, this route stays mostly flat: a gentle ride through countryside and small canals, ideal for those who want history and beautiful gardens without the effort of the hills.

The route runs from Km Rental to Battaglia Terme, then to Catajo Castle, on to the Valsanzibio Garden and Galzignano Terme, before looping back to the starting point.

Thanks to the easy, mostly flat terrain, this route is also suitable for traditional bikes, not just e-bikes — making it a great option for families travelling with children.

🏰

Catajo Castle

Built starting in 1570 for Pio Enea I degli Obizzi, it's one of the largest private castles in Italy. Don't miss the Sala delle Battaglie, frescoed by Giovanni Battista Zelotti, depicting the Obizzi family's military feats.

🌿

Valsanzibio Garden

Designed in 1669 for Villa Barbarigo by architect Luigi Bernini, this is one of Italy's best-preserved 17th-century gardens, famous for its boxwood maze and elaborate water features.

♨️

Galzignano Terme

A spa town tucked among chestnut woods and vineyards, near the Frassanelle Park. The perfect spot for a rest and a coffee before heading back to Montegrotto Terme.

Fior d'Arancio DOCG, the only one in the Padova area

Fior d'Arancio Colli Euganei DOCG is the only DOCG wine in the entire province of Padova — an aromatic, orange-blossom-scented white that's the area's highest wine classification.

Pair it with bigoli al torchio, the hand-pressed pasta typical of the area, or with sopressa veneta, a soft, delicately spiced salami found on every local table.

In season, look out for dishes built around mushrooms and truffles from the surrounding hills — a final, well-earned reward after a day in the saddle.

5 facts you wouldn't expect

1
Il Catajo, the largest private castle in Italy. With more than 350 rooms, Catajo Castle is considered one of the largest privately built castles in the whole country — a scale most visitors don't expect from the outside.
2
The Sala delle Battaglie, an overlooked masterpiece. The frescoes by Zelotti depicting the Obizzi family's battles are considered among the finest cycles of military narrative painting in the Veneto — yet remain little known outside specialist circles.
3
A maze designed by Bernini. The boxwood labyrinth at Valsanzibio was designed by Luigi Bernini, brother of the famous sculptor Gian Lorenzo Bernini — a rare garden project by the Bernini family outside Rome.
4
Voted Italy's most beautiful garden. Valsanzibio has repeatedly been named the most beautiful garden in Italy in national rankings, thanks to its intact 17th-century layout and elaborate symbolic water features.
5
The only DOCG of the province. Fior d'Arancio Colli Euganei is the sole wine in the entire province of Padova to hold Italy's highest wine classification, DOCG.
